My Love For The Clifton Suspension Bridge

Hello my name is Edd, a Freelance Photographer. I’d like to tell you a short visual story about my love for the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

A few years ago I returned to the UK after the best part of a year travelling, it was time to follow a long-term dream and move to Bristol with my wife.

Bristol had me straight away, the rows of coloured houses, the bright bustling harbour, a coffee shop on every corner and of course the beloved Suspension Bridge. The lasting memory of trips here when I was younger always left the image of the bridge etched into my mind.

Two and a half years later and my love for the city has grown immensely. I love capturing scenes here, and there’s one place I always find myself coming back to, the Clifton Suspension Bridge. As a photographer it’s a privilege to visit, the huge gorge and scale of the surroundings never fail to take my breath away.

Through my photography I aim to freeze precious moments in time, showcasing the bridge in my own way and in celebration of this incredible location, here are ten of my favourite photos I’ve captured of the Suspension Bridge so far.

1. Mist under the bridge

It was a moment that I hoped to capture even before moving to Bristol. Often I’d look the forecast and hope for mist, many attempts later and finally at the start of 2020 I witnessed fog  drifting beneath the bridge.

2. Sunset Surprise

I very nearly walked away from this sunset as it looked extremely grey and unlikely, but I’m very glad to have stuck around. The sky went a magical pink colour. This is my best selling print on my website (www.eddcopephotography.co.uk), and one of my personal favourites – I love that it brings so much joy to others

3. Sunny afternoon

This was one of our first visits to the bridge when we moved to Bristol, here’s my wife and adventure buddy taking in that awesome view

4. Bristol Balloons

A true bucket list shot, it was well worth the super early get up to see this famous sight.

5. Sunrise Suspension

I love sunrise, it’s so peaceful and magical. This particular warm summer morning I took my bike out and captured this shot while riding over the bridge

6. Snow Day

I remember opening the curtains on this particular day, to see we were greeted with a huge dump of snow. All plans went out the window and I did the only thing I could think of, grabbed my camera and ran the few miles to Clifton Observatory for this view.

7. Dreamy

Another photo from the misty morning, one that fills me the thought of adventure every time I look at it

8. Vibrant

It’s hard to beat the feeling of seeing the sunrise above Bristol from up on the bridge, this particular morning the sky exploded with colour

9. Autumn Colours

It’s amazing when the trees in the gorge start to turn the colours of autumn, the way the bridge pops out from the natural surroundings is pretty amazing.

10. Disappearing

When the mist is thick enough the bridge performs an amazing disappearing act, this particular moment was captured at the pink glow of sunrise.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey through some of my favourite photos taken at this awesome and ionic location. It’s a pleasure to capture the bridge in various conditions and light.
