I’m not normally up in time for sunrise as I spend most clear night’s shooting stars; this has become very unappealing in the winter months (although I have done some) so thought I’d take advantage of the morning ‘magic hour’.
Not one to rely on the weather forecast I was dubious to say the least, but my eyes never fail me, so, alarm set for 6am each time we were expecting a ‘clear sky’.
We had a few spectacular mornings (and some I wish I hadn’t bothered with!)
I had done my research and had a couple of locations in mind… here are the results:
1. The Suspension Bridge isn’t great for sunrise but with a wide angle you can capture some beautiful colours.
2. Brandon Hill Park is all ready for Spring… at least it was until winter came back and punched it full in the face.
3. I’m spending a lot of time at the Harbourside recently as I have a market stall there so it was great to photograph it from a different perspective.
4. St Mary Redcliffe with plenty of colourful houses and the sun creeping up to brighten everyone’s morning.
5. You can’t beat a cool drink on a sunny Sunday afternoon on the terrace at the Avon Gorge hotel… or can you? 7.53am, 3 degrees, beautiful.
6. Ugly but iconic – The Purdown BT Tower.
7. Who lives in a house like this?

8. Pre sunrise glow at Brandon Hill Park
That was 8 sunrise photos of Bristol from the brilliant Phil Watson. You can also find Phil on his Twitter & Facebook.
