Hotel du Vin Review

Hotel du Vin; fine-dining and luxury accommodation in the heart of Bristol.

The Hotel du Vin is a stylish and sophisticated property taking pride of place in a beautifully converted Grade II-listed sugar warehouse in central Bristol, just round the corner from Colston Hall.

Dating back to the 18th-century, the hotel is home to a public bar, contemporary yet characterful bedrooms and an elegant dining room, and welcomes guests for everything from weekend stays to corporate dinners, weddings, wine-tastings, cocktail masterclasses and more.

Fine-dining

If you’re looking for a sophisticated setting for a special meal with friends or family, the Bistro — Hotel du Vin’s dining room — is an ideal option. The restaurant’s talented chefs bring seasonal produce to the fore, creating innovative menus which allow their ingredients to shine.

Open every day for breakfast in Bristol, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, the Bistro offers a warm and relaxing setting where diners enjoy delicious food and attentive service without the stuffy feel.

Worthy of particular note, the 4-course Sunday lunch includes soup of the day to start and a choice of fresh seafood, charcuterie, pâtés and rillettes. Main course and dessert complete the experience, which costs a very reasonable £24.95. (The 3-course children’s menu is priced at £9.95).

Luxury accommodation

The Hotel du Vin’s 40 bedrooms and master suites all offer luxury Egyptian linens, en-suite facilities, Nespresso coffee machines, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. Once this little list is ticked off, the rooms differ in size and price — but all of them complement the stylish surroundings you’ll find elsewhere throughout the building.

From floor-to-ceiling picture windows and characterful stone walling, to loft-style mezzanine levels, rooftop terraces and comfortable king-size beds, the Hotel du Vin’s rooms offer a haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Many of the suites are named after the famous Champagne houses of Reims and Épernay — a nice touch which adds to the bespoke feel of the hotel. Rates start at around £149, with upgrades available to include full breakfast, a bottle of Champagne or a 3-course dinner from the prix fixe menu.

Further offerings in the Hotel du Vin

The hotel’s Sugar Bar is open to residents and non-residents alike all year round, and opens out onto a pretty courtyard ideal for alfresco drinking in the summer months. With a focus on seasonal spirits and the fine art of mixology, the Sugar Bar ranks very highly among Bristol’s cocktail venues.

Bar Manager Dan Harrington prides himself on his mixing skills, and remains on hand to prepare everything from the classic mojito to your boldest cocktail concoctions. The Sugar Bar invites groups for wine-tastings and cocktail masterclasses, too. Just ask!
