Bristol breakfasts and brunches that will start any day the right way

1. Source

Seeking out the ultimate Full English? This has to be your first stop – the breakfast is huge and you won’t find finer ingredients; you can even stroll over to the meat counter to choose your sausages!

2. Rosemarino

Whether you need a sophisticated Eggs Benedict or the ultimate stodge from the legendary ‘Tommy’s 1 Pan Wonder’, this relaxed Clifton institution has all the answers for brunch!

3. The Crafty Egg

As you’d expect from the name, this Stokes Croft favourite is the place to go if you want your eggs served up in imaginative ways, from being baked in a skillet with chorizo or piled high with cheese through to poached on toast with some avocado and salmon.

4. North St Standard

If you need to load up for the day, the breakfasts here come piled high. My favourites are the bubble & squeak or the pancakes, but you’re spoilt for choice.

5. Spoke & Stringer

Enjoy your breakfast overlooking the Bristol harbour, and to make things even better, the food here is brilliant – but don’t take my word for it, they are also the winner of Best Breakfast at the 2016 Bristol Good Food Awards, and deservedly so.

6. Bakers & Co

A Bristol brunch institution – whether you opt for one of their amazing cakes, or go flashy and order the huevos rancheros or hefty Bakers Breakfast.

7. East Village Cafe

This bright and relaxed café in Clifton Village serves up dishes just as beautiful as its interior, and they’re all vegan too! Make sure you leave room for cake and a smoothie too…

8. The Bristolian

When it comes to breakfast in Bristol, this place in Montpelier has been smashing out quality ones for a long time now. Make sure you nab a seat before it gets busy at weekends!

9. Ironworks

Whether you opt for a stack of pancakes or a bowl of granola, you won’t come away disappointed. They also do great milkshakes, and are home to Bristol’s teeniest, cutest dog (Hi Tinka!)

10. Spicer & Cole

With 4 branches around Bristol, you’re never far away from an egg, bacon and aioli bap, and that my friends is a joyful, joyful thing.

11. Brew

I have spent more hungover mornings on their sunny deck tucking into a Brewfast than I’d care to imagine. Top notch coffee too.

12. Dela

If you like your breakfast with a Scandi twist, head over to Easton and try to choose between the brunch bowls or pastries at Dela. My recent favourite has been smoked mackerel with poached eggs, but the specials are always worth a look!

13. Eat Your Greens

Another plantbased joint very much deserving of your attention, you can opt for some unusual dishes such as tofu with oyster mushrooms, vegan rainbow waffles with ice cream, or the Beasty Breakfast, every bit as hefty as it sounds!

Often to be found propping up a bar and eyeing up its rum selection, Shonette is an avid Bristol explorer and food muncher - take a look at her blog A Life Less Organised for her guides to the city's best pub crawls, roasts and more.
