Feeding Bristol Are Fundraising To Feed Hungry Children In Bristol This Summer

Local charity, Feeding Bristol, have launched their Healthy Holidays fundraising campaign, aiming to raise £20,000 to give less advantaged children the opportunity to play, learn and eat better throughout the summer holidays.

Feeding Bristol was founded in 2017 in response to a statement made by the Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, when he said publicly “no child should go to school hungry”.

Following 2019’s hugely successful Healthy Holidays campaign, which brought together almost 70 different community organisations and supported over 53,000 meals to over 5,000 children in need, the charity is now aiming to deliver a new 2020 Summer programme that best meets the needs across Bristol in this unprecedented environment.

14,250 children in the city are currently eligible for free school meals, but with only receiving a supermarket voucher throughout the summer holidays, many families find themselves struggling to provide healthy balanced meals.

This year, Feeding Bristol will be continuing their work in partnering with grass-roots organisations that work directly with children and families, to provide increased access to healthy holidays for as many children in need as possible.

Feeding Bristol now need to raise between £20,000 – £30,000 to allow them to deliver their programme and support the community groups who are working with these children and families.

Feeding Bristol has this week launched their Healthy Holidays fundraising campaign which will run for four weeks to help support the great work they and their partners are already doing with children in need.

Feeding Bristol recently discovered that the South West will not be receiving any Government support to run holiday programmes and is therefore asking for financial support from people across the city to help meet the urgent need.

Donations will contribute to a range of different provisions and activities to help children in need, allowing parents to feed their children healthy, nutritious meals in conjunction with the free school meals voucher programmes as well as providing resources on food, activity and wellbeing education.

Speaking about the fundraising campaign, Feeding Bristol Director Maurice Di Rosso said:

“Many, many children are going to have a really tough time these summer holidays. Due to social distancing, activities that we used to rely on as a platform for feeding, providing a safe space, and giving children the opportunity to have a fun time, just won’t be able to operate as much as in the past. These summer holidays, it’s our responsibility as a city to provide as many positive opportunities as possible for these children who deserve even more.”

Feeding Bristol’s Healthy Holidays fundraising campaign is now open for donations here, and any support is hugely appreciated.
