We caught up with one our favourite Bristol Instagram accounts – @scottsalter.
I may have been born in Bath (that’s the city, not the tub), but being bred in Bristol, I’m a Bristolian at heart. I love Bristol. It’s an amazing city. It’s got the Clifton Suspension Bridge, an annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and Harbour Festival, the best places to shop, definitely the best places to eat, as well as the best places to have a bit of a relax!
My first ever photo was of the London Eye. It was taken on my legendary Sony Ericsson W810i. I love nature and landscape photography, and love good light – my best is in pure blue skies, or at sunset. Bristol is a fantastic place to photograph. One of my favourite places to photograph is the Clifton Suspension Bridge, as you may be able to tell below!

1. Bristol Harbour at sunset
The Harbour is one of the best places in Bristol. It’s old, it’s modern, and you can get a gert lush sunset there!
2. Postcard Bristol
There are lots of things you may see on a postcard of Bristol, but if you had never known where this picture was taken, you could easily guess it was Bristol. The Matthew proudly sailing past, beneath the colours of Cliftonwood.
3. Clifton Suspension Bridge
I really enjoy cycling, and decided to go the few extra miles to the Clifton Suspension Bridge on this evening, and I’m glad I did. For the first time since the Summer, I was able to see the Clifton tower once again, due to the scaffolding being removed, and the beauty has returned. It was close to sunset, and I managed to get this photo of the sun shining on the bridge.
4. Salford at Sunset
Taken last Winter, a calm but misty sunset along the River Avon.
5. Autumn in Bristol
As well as being home to colourful houses and a suspension bridge, Clifton also has many parks. I love using light in my photography, and love the way the sunset lights up the Autumnal leaves.
6. Top of the World
In between Bristol & Bath, there’s Kelston and Kelston Round Top, or Kelston Round Hill, or Kelston Tump as it’s known. It takes a while to get up to the top from Kelston Road, but my… it’s definitely worth it! You can view almost all of Bath from the top, see icons such as the former Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Keynsham, and even the Wills Memorial Building. This picture was taken close to sunset looking towards Saltford.
7. Evening Light
Using good lighting again thanks to a good sunset, the Balmoral at Bristol Harbour.
8. Sunset Over the City
This photo was taken as part of my foundation degree in Photography. Using a 30 second exposure, the lights, views, and sunset over Bristol was captured!
9. Light at Night
Taken within the same set as the previous photo, a 30 second exposure captures the light trails of the traffic crossing Brunel’s bridge.
10. Cheesy Yellow
They call this bridge “Cheesegrater Bridge”. I’ve never been too sure about that, but here it is, looking cool at sunset, with the light reflecting, and with silhouettes of buildings and Bristol Temple Meads in the background.
