We’re seriously spoilt when it comes to top quality pizza in this town.
These guys make some mouthwatering pizzas with the finest ingredients, including their famous ox cheek ragu pizza (even better than it sounds) – the chorizo & pickled chilli is also brilliant, and they have plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices to keep everyone happy. Lush homemade ice cream & sorbets too.
The first of two businesses on this list to upgrade from an oven in a Landrover to permanent premises, the team at Bertha’s are fully committed to making the best possible sourdough pizza (slightly gentler on your tumtum – and tastier in my opinion), and do the classics well while also playing about with some more unusual toppings.
Keep an eye out for the Kimcheese (kimchi & cheese – trust me, it’s heavenly) or the Umami Bomb (smoked potatoes & garlic). Also make sure you check out their Negroni menu – daaamn.
Based in Wapping Wharf and Gloucester Road – you can opt for a simple Margherita (£6) or go for the DIY approach, where you can add as many toppings as you want for a tenner.
They also do lots of giveaways and special offers, so keep your eyes peeled to their Facebook & Twitter pages!
Easton has its own fair share of great pizza in this little restaurant just by Stapleton Road Station. Wood-fired sourdough pizzas with a range of authentic Italian toppings, plus some unusual specials too!
Having gone from running their own restaurant, you can now find Pepe Nero running the kitchens at The Beer Emporium on King St, and The Full Moon on Stokes Croft. Expect large pizzas (you can opt for 12 or 20 inches!) with generous toppings, with lots of vegan and gluten free options available. Perfect for soaking up those weekend beers and sharing with friends!
Their ethos is ‘One thing, made well’, and they stick to their promise. With premises on North St in Southville and Whiteladies Rd, these are bright and modern neighbourhood pizza joints which make sure they do their best to represent true Neapolitan style food, from pizzas to boccas (hefty panini sandwiches).
The ingredients are thoughtfully sourced, the pizzas are super tasty and the garlic bread comes laden with garlic oil and sliced garlic – a great all-rounder.
Another traditional Italian with a modern twist, Bosco also has two branches on Whiteladies Road and in Clifton Village.
A nieghbourhood favourite in St Werburghs – this is the pizza place that gets the most word of mouth buzz in the city. More rustic than the other places on the list, their pizzas are a great homely option and they do some interesting topping combos too, such as barbecue chicken & avocado, or blue cheese & fig.
An Italian deli on Wells Road in Totterdown during the day, pizza joint in the evening. The menu is fairly extensive, with the pizzas all themed around music (Vivaldi, Concerto…). Prepare to wait on busier evenings (I’ve had to call back several times on a Fridya night), but the pizzas here are worth the wait, as you’d expect from a place that has access to the best Italian ingredients!
More of a café than restaurant, this place at the Primark end of The Arcade in Broadmead always has a buzzing vibe and is definitely worth stopping in to, whether its for their breakfast pastries, mega paninis or tasty pizza slices – all of which have many vegan options.
Other popular pizza restaurants in the city include the longstanding Planet Pizza on Gloucester Road, and more recent addition to Bristol, Dough on Baldwin St, who as well as offering a range of authentic Italian toppings also so an extensive selection of bases made with ingredients including hemp, black rice and multigrain.
Oh, and for your obligatory 3am pizza needs – try Red Pizza Co. – get a Bristol Bad Boy (spicy chicken, spicy beef, chillies, red peppers, red onion & chilli sauce), then thank me later.
There are also plenty of pubs offering a decent pizza menu (Bocabar, Zero Degrees, Beerd & The Crofters Rights among a few others), as well as cosy trattorias including La Grotta and Don Giovanni’s.
